— THE PROCEDURE
How non-surgical gum therapy works at our Barrie clinic
Most cases of gum disease in Barrie are treatable without surgery even moderately advanced ones. The cornerstone of non-surgical gum therapy is a procedure called scaling and root planing: a deep cleaning that goes beneath the gumline to remove the bacteria and hardened plaque that regular brushing simply can’t reach.
The treatment is typically completed over one or two visits, depending on severity. We use ultrasonic instruments and fine hand tools to clean the root surfaces, smooth them so bacteria can’t easily re-attach, and rinse the area with antibacterial agents. For most patients, the gums begin reattaching to the teeth within a few weeks and the bleeding, swelling, and bad breath fade as healing progresses.
Routine cleanings remain the foundation of long-term gum health. Modern adjuncts include laser periodontal therapy and broader diode laser treatment for soft tissue work.
Treatment stays comfortable thanks to Oraqix needle-free, which targets anaesthesia to the exact area, with no numb lip or cheek afterward.
